It’s been 20 years since Gillian Welch released her debut masterpiece Revival that announced the arrival of a singular songwriting talent. Since then Welch and her musical partner David Rawlings have recorded four more exquisite albums that evoke the spare and haunting qualities of the southern Appalachian Mountains. Welch achieved greater prominence in 2002 for her contributions to the Grammy-winning soundtrack O Brother Where Art Thou. Her most recent album, The Harrow & The Harvest, received a Grammy nomination and is considered one of her finest. All Music Guide says it is “stunning for its intimacy, its lack of studio artifice, its warmth and its timeless, if hard won, songcraft.”
